"Wanihachi Village" in Yame City, famous for tea production

The Kasahara district of Kurogi-cho, Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is said to be the birthplace of Yame tea.

Further into the mountains, in the Wanibachi village, lies the Yame Wanibachi tea plantation.

The people of this village have made their living producing tea, rice, and other crops, as the temperature differences and soil environment at high altitudes are ideal for growing delicious crops.

Harsh growing conditions create deep flavor

Today, the trend is to use nutrients from fertilizer to grow tea quickly and produce tea with strong flavor.

On the other hand, Yame Wanihachi tea is grown "slowly" with almost no fertilizer in the mountainous environment with extreme temperature differences, a harsh environment for tea .

Tea grown in this way has a unique character and strong flavor that is specific to that region .
